The Abaci appear to be colour-scratched on their stretcher, visible through the light yarn. They are further enriched by the coloured cardboards that back-paint the canvas. Abacus is a pure and virginal series in which Riccardo Baruzzi reveals the essence of his research on sign, a constant stimulus for the eye to notice the differences in the movement of the hand, in the material and chromatic quality of the object, in the harmony or disharmony of the composition. The Abaci show the magic calculation of the painter's mind.
