Nao Tsuda continues to create landscape photography motivated by a mystical concept rather than a simple desire to photograph nature. The pictures in this book, printed in a unique panoramic format, were all made in Ireland, where Tsuda's own grandfather had lived for a time: finding a series of photographs of his grandfather pasted together to resemble a panorama, he felt moved to shoot panoramas of the country. They show unpeopled landscapes of and around Ireland's stunning coastline, considering the ruggedness of this land in relation to the shelter the fortresses offered. In a statement at the end of the book Tsuda says that while shooting he kept in mind the question of what the ideological issues of the ancients were.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
