Over decades Parr has gathered beach photographs that record the good old traditions still found there: sunbathers asleep, bathers diving in on a whim, people walking the endless sand in search of a picnic spot. Vendors are found on every beach the world over, Brighton ice cream, ear-cleaners in the Indian resort of Goa, grilled fish in Chile, noodles in China, and the beach is a rare public space where, across cultures, one can see a country's everyday life and national character.
