Shortlisted, Dummy Award 2026

Photobook dummy by Evelyn Kett (Germany), shortlisted for the Dummy Award 2026. The book deals with prostheses and other forms of body extension, exploring their diversity and technical development. It examines how these extensions relate to the human body and shape perception, identity and personal experience. The starting point is the evolution of artificial body parts into today's technologically complex systems; the work shows a selection of contemporary prostheses and makes visible how closely body, technology and social norms are interconnected. It is based on interviews with people who use prostheses, and the title, German for no longer a piece of wood, is a quote from one of these conversations. The cover and the accompanying red and cyan glasses are 3D printed and are part of the photographic work. The white 3D-printed cover has the title in raised, tone-on-tone letters and a pair of red and blue anaglyph glasses clipped at the top right. The Dummy Award, organised by the PhotoBookMuseum in Cologne, shortlisted 48 unpublished dummies from about 325 entries from more than 45 countries; the shortlist travels on a world tour of photography events and venues.

ABOUT

The project

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.

Images and rights

Covers, interior pages and descriptions are shown to introduce and identify the books, always crediting publisher, author and photographer and linking back to the publisher. We ask publishers for their permission, and we remove anything on request within 7 days. If you are a publisher, an author or a photographer and you want something changed or removed, write to info@spineindex.it.
