Photobook dummy by Ingrid Hernández (Mexico), shortlisted for the Dummy Award 2026. Sedimentations explores informal housing in Tijuana as a process of layers, additions and constant transformations, proposing these spaces as living landscapes where histories, affects and forms of everyday resistance accumulate. The series, made between 2022 and 2025, follows how materials from the United States end up in the construction of informal dwellings, among them a home built from moulded foam used as packaging. The softcover photobook has a binding structure with double, triple and quadruple unfolding pages that expand the visual field, generate complex photographic relationships and create an immersive experience beyond the conventional two-dimensional format. The Dummy Award, organised by the PhotoBookMuseum in Cologne, shortlisted 48 unpublished dummies from about 325 entries from more than 45 countries; the shortlist travels on a world tour of photography events and venues.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
