Shortlisted, Dummy Award 2026

Photobook dummy by Aline Savioz (Switzerland and France), shortlisted for the Dummy Award 2026. The book deals with the growing integration of robotics in societies facing an ageing population, where machines appear both as practical solutions and as extensions of the human body, blurring the boundary between human and technology. Through images produced in robotics laboratories, universities and clinics in Japan and Switzerland, the project explores the global tensions, hopes and transformations shaping a world where humans, machines and environments increasingly coexist. It was made with a mobility grant from the State of Valais and with the support of RVB Books at ECAL. The Dummy Award, organised by the PhotoBookMuseum in Cologne, shortlisted 48 unpublished dummies from about 325 entries from more than 45 countries; the shortlist travels on a world tour of photography events and venues.

ABOUT

The project

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.

Images and rights

Covers, interior pages and descriptions are shown to introduce and identify the books, always crediting publisher, author and photographer and linking back to the publisher. We ask publishers for their permission, and we remove anything on request within 7 days. If you are a publisher, an author or a photographer and you want something changed or removed, write to info@spineindex.it.
