Text by Arthur Miller, Anna Fárová, Robert Delpire

Each of Inge Morath's portraits tells a story, tells of history, reveals a personal relationship and gives evidence of an art that shuns stamping its subjects and rather invites them to be as they wish to be before the camera. Pictures from fifty years of a photographer's life. The photographs are accompanied by three very personal texts about Inge Morath's work: Arthur Miller, Inge Morath's husband, has closely observed her at work during numerous travels and describes her photographic style in a masterful essay. Anna Fárová, a Prague curator in charge of Josef Sudek's estate, remembers Inge Morath's commitment during the opposition against the Communist regime in former Czechoslovakia. And Robert Delpire, Inge Morath's first publisher in Paris, thinks of the days when he accompanied the photographer in Iran and Spain.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
