A phytophile is a person especially interested in plants. In this zine created for Dashwood, the artist Bela Borsodi explores one woman's relationship with plants, working with the model Faina. The black-and-white pictures show her posing nude with houseplants: beside a rubber plant in a stone pot, draped in trailing ivy, holding a potted palm on a windowsill above the city lights, and in a close-up of an eye behind a leaf. Collector Daily called it a modest publication that shows how a zine can be the perfect photobook venue for a small self-contained project: quirky, sexy and decidedly offbeat, with surprisingly engaging images that result from consistently thoughtful staging and a successful collaboration with the model.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
