36 is Todd Weaver's first monograph, a project built from a strict set of components: one fifty-year-old Olympus Pen half-frame camera, Ilford HP5 black-and-white film, a white wall, natural light, an inspiring subject, two pieces of tape marking the edges of the frame, one shooting position and a subject free to move in and out of the frame at will. One photograph is taken every five seconds, continuously, thirty-six times, for a total of three minutes, and the procedure is repeated for thirty-six subjects. The pages are laid out as grids of small half-frame images, in which dancers and portrait sitters tumble, pose and lean out of the picture, and as full-page portraits of people standing against the white wall.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
