Music and words by Mike Hadreas
Photography by Camille Vivier
Foreword by Ocean Vuong
Design and art direction by Andrew J.S.

Immediately is the book companion to the album Set My Heart on Fire Immediately by Perfume Genius, Mike Hadreas, a three-dimensional, dust-blown world that is cinematic in its grandeur and intimate in its inspection of the human form. Featuring iconic portraits of the artist by the French photographer Camille Vivier, this limited-edition monograph reveals the unseen procedures beneath the music: vivid conjurings that became songs and tactile by-products of exercises in world-building. Within its pages beguiling still life is set amid corroded collage, handwritten lyrics take shape and words emerge as emotionally charged objects, so that the results are collected in a process made permanent. In his foreword Ocean Vuong writes that this is music to both fight and make love to, to be shattered and whole with. The portraits show the singer posed on a wooden stool in a harness and draped in smoke on a chair, set against handwritten red lyrics.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
