Igor Mukhin's book is devoted to Russian open-air festivals, gathering pictures taken between 2005 and 2016 at more than twenty of them, including Nashestvie, Pustye Kholmy and Outline. The album of black-and-white images makes no claim to be a thorough chronicle of the phenomenon; it reads instead, in the words of one critic, as a visual hymn to inner freedom and the capacity for joy, a record of the slackening that belongs to leisure and that leaves the viewer guessing at what these largely anonymous, faintly marginal figures do the rest of the week.
