With this eighth instalment of the Atlas des Régions Naturelles, Eric Tabuchi and Nelly Monnier continue the long-term project begun in 2017: a comprehensive documentation of the 450 natural regions, or "pays", that make up French territory, an undertaking conceived to unfold over several years at the pace of one publication every six months. Travelling through these small geographic and cultural entities, often fallen into disuse against the administrative map of France, the duo gathers the visual elements that define a region, treating human-driven particularities - traditional architecture, place names, local aesthetics, traces of history - on equal footing with natural motifs such as relief, landscape, colour and vegetation. Across 384 pages and more than 500 images, this eighth volume presents eleven region "portraits" punctuated by four thematic entries, accompanied, as with every volume, by a fold-out map serving as an index.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
