The publication brings together Julia Gaisbacher's years-long engagement with the artist's house of Hanne Darboven. Darboven (1941-2009) lived and worked in Hamburg and is one of the outstanding international artists of the twentieth century: in the 1960s she founded conceptual art together with artist friends, and she was an attentive observer of her own time and of the history and development of politics, culture and society. Gaisbacher, who trained as a sculptor and works through artistic research, looks at architecture and the urban landscape as a human habitat.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
