Inside the Studio explores the places where electronic music is born, far from the clubs and festivals where it is listened to. Basements, renovated lofts, former factories, bedrooms and improvised studios become work spaces where rigor and chaos, creativity and improvisation coexist. Through photographs and interviews, the volume offers an intimate look at the production landscape of Berlin and Cairo, revealing the variety of environments and atmospheres that characterize them. The project, born from research by the Arab-German Young Academy of Sciences and Humanities (AGYA), is transformed into an unprecedented and engaging portrait of one of the most vital cultural sectors, with the collaboration of artists such as Ricardo Villalobos, Cinthie, Modeselektor, Marcel Dettmann and many others. Gero Cacciatore's photographs intertwine with the texts edited by the musicologist Matthias Pasdzierny, offering an unprecedented look at the spaces of electronic music. The two authors will be in the bookshop on 17 October 2025 for the presentation of the book. A limited edition poster created in collaboration with Micamera will be available.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
