For this fourth opus made with Sophie Pinet, Roe Ethridge has chosen the seashell. It is an ideal pretext for inviting us on a journey beyond the cliches of popular culture and art history, and for evoking memories of his tender age spent by the Atlantic Ocean. Through this motif the artist also takes us to the heart of his humorous practice, which has never ceased to push back the boundaries between commercial commission and artistic work, between the intimate and the collective, between a vision anchored in reality and one completely fantasised.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
