The first book by Inés Molina Navea thinks about the work of art in relation to the historical event. It starts from the chance encounter with a photographic triptych at the Musée du Quai Branly in Paris: three portraits of three women posing according to the rules of nineteenth-century anthropology, which set out to make its object of study — the savage — visible. Everything had been prepared to turn those pictures into documents.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
