A tender rumination on family, migration and heritage. In the 1960s Claire Cocano's grandparents left Yugoslavia for France and settled permanently in an apartment where, more than forty years later, they would watch their country of origin dissolve. Through the volume the artist weaves her own pictures with family photographs, journal entries, letters and identity cards, punctuating them with two contrasting items: the records of an employment file and the documents of a life reassembled from paper.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
