Continuing the move towards abstraction begun in her previous publication A Trilogy, Jessica Backhaus works here with analogue photographic means alone. Sheets of cut translucent paper react to the heat of intense sunlight: they buckle, rise and cast shadows. Having arranged and staged the compositions, the artist becomes an astonished observer of processes she can only partly control, and the recorder of a visual experiment — a poetic choreography of intense colour in sunlight.
