The inaugural photobook marks the first chapter of a long-running project in which the artist uses large format photographs, polaroids, drawings and personal notes to grasp at the intangible and explore a connection with time itself. The project is a response to a need to escape, adventure and roam in reaction to an internal pressure that time is moving too fast, a shared experience that hours, days and weeks pass and cannot be recalled, life continuing as time slips away. The adventure began in Romania, where a strong sense of timelessness, tradition and untouched scenery mirrored a desire to stop time, leading to a local story that perfectly echoes these many questions: a photographic exploration of the fabric of time, drawing directly on famous mythology to offer a view on the fragility of existence. Alternating between reality and fantasy, the photographs respond to a feeling of separation from the modern world, playing with the notion of fiction and the present moment, all the signs of temporality bearing on objects charged with tensions of permanence and impermanence.

ABOUT

The project

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.

Images and rights

Covers, interior pages and descriptions are shown to introduce and identify the books, always crediting publisher, author and photographer and linking back to the publisher. We ask publishers for their permission, and we remove anything on request within 7 days. If you are a publisher, an author or a photographer and you want something changed or removed, write to info@spineindex.it.
