Photographs taken all over the world, later archived and unpacked, then furiously re-edited over several years in search of the strongest images: a pool party in Memphis, women wrestling in a chair, time slowing in Dar es Salaam, a vase of flowers distressed nearly to abstraction, a watery corner of a London park. Work prints made for editing were stacked, shuffled, boxed, and pulled out again and again, some inadvertently stained, torn, or scorched in the process -- damage that gave the surviving prints a unique patina, adding artifacts to the images that became as much a part of finishing the work as the original subject, composition, and light.
