Text by Massimo Doninelli

Siragusa travelled at length through Italy, observing and photographing places more or less famous, ancient and new squares, glimpses of the country: a series of images that tell an Italy both unknown and familiar and that reveals, in its structural diversity, a coherence of vision, light and space. A country of extraordinary beauty, sometimes shamelessly displayed, sometimes hidden, always capable of great visual balance and of often sumptuous stage-like spaces ready for a public, collective show. "To tell, with words or images, the land where one was born, the land from which the language we speak arose, is a fundamental juncture in any artist’s experience."

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
