In recent years the Magnum photographer and journalist documented life in the mega-slums of four cities: Nairobi in Kenya, Mumbai in India, Caracas in Venezuela and Jakarta in Indonesia. With a new and interesting editorial design, the book presents a series of large images, each printed across a double page, each telling a story, a specific place, a particular home. It bears witness to the specificity of each story and, at the same time, shows how some general problems, poor sanitation, the difficulty of getting electricity and water, precarious health, link the slums of the world to one another: the true face of our new and troubled planet.
