FotoNote series, directed by Robert Delpire

A selection of the pictures made during the journeys that took the photographer from Northern Europe to Africa and from Portugal to Japan. His work is a personal, dreamlike journey through land and space. Travelled at eye level or from a bird’s-eye view, the territory appears white, rarefied, sometimes mysterious and often as pale as snow; a land curiously inhabited by domestic animals that go their way in the solitude of an undefined place. The space we must inhabit, or at least know, is boundless, and his panoramic pictures enclose it in a literal continuity, in search of an elsewhere always present and always to be reached. From Helsinki, he is a man of the North: he cannot bear the sun or too much heat, but is in perfect harmony with the nature he contemplates with the intense gaze of an enchanted predator.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
