The first book of images by the film directors Fabio and Damiano D’Innocenzo, who made La terra dell’abbastanza and Favolacce, in competition at the 2020 Berlin festival. The volume is a conversation about the medium made of images and of words shared between the two, a book that feeds the hunger to see and the need to express oneself in different languages. It goes back, as though one were reading notes written earlier, over episodes of a shared childhood or experiences distant in time and space, in a continuous, extremely spontaneous and wry dialogue between the two young twins, who through the pages reveal what they take the medium to be, telling each other about themselves and underlining all their differences: "I would like to tell something mysterious with these frames, and something of mine, something that can become yours too, but you have to want to know me." The colour snapshots that accompany their conversation take on different shades according to the eye that makes them, and are ready to change meaning according to the sensibility and the mood of whoever looks.

ABOUT

The project

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.

Images and rights

Covers, interior pages and descriptions are shown to introduce and identify the books, always crediting publisher, author and photographer and linking back to the publisher. We ask publishers for their permission, and we remove anything on request within 7 days. If you are a publisher, an author or a photographer and you want something changed or removed, write to info@spineindex.it.
