This work takes twenty years of photographs, notebooks, and ephemera documenting the Black experience in Europe between 2004-2024, through various crises from the wake of 9/11 and the Iran War through the global financial crisis, Brexit, the rise of rightwing populism in the 2010s and Russia's full scale invasion of Ukraine in the 2020s. A working Black photographer himself, the artist self-funded a series of Interrail trips through Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam, Berlin, Stockholm, Moscow, Kyiv, Zagreb, Rome, Marseille, Lisbon and many more places, illuminating often misunderstood and misrepresented Afro-European communities in words and images.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
