A Zona project conceived and curated by Renata Ferri
With an interview and a text by the curator, a writing by the author
And commentaries by Lucia Annunziata, Giovanna Calvenzi, Domenico Starnone and Valerio Laurenti

The book gathers and orders the work of Emiliano Mancuso, who died early in 2018 at the age of forty-six. It presents a representative selection of his whole output, in still images and in film, with an interview and a text by the curator, a writing by the author himself and commentaries by several voices. More than two hundred images tell of his sensibility, offer a thorough view of the subjects he treated over the years and also account for his technical experiments — monochrome, colour work, snapshots, the use of digital and of film. Italy is the absolute protagonist of the book, shown in its economic, political and social aspect, through the stories of individuals but also through regional and circumscribed episodes or the great events that have involved the country in recent years. His lens gives precedence to everyday reality, observing the urgent socio-economic problems of the peninsula.

ABOUT

The project

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.

Images and rights

Covers, interior pages and descriptions are shown to introduce and identify the books, always crediting publisher, author and photographer and linking back to the publisher. We ask publishers for their permission, and we remove anything on request within 7 days. If you are a publisher, an author or a photographer and you want something changed or removed, write to info@spineindex.it.
