First volume in the Gucci Prospettive series

The first volume in a series, presented for the debut show of Sabato De Sarno as creative director of Gucci during Milan Fashion Week on 22 September 2023. It is a love letter to Milan and to its art, a journey traced in dialogue with De Sarno, his words and the images he carries. The book is an unbroken flow of works of art, words, episodes and texts: fragments of the cultural and artistic history of Milan from the end of the Second World War to today, a family album. It opens with a cut by Lucio Fontana, flies over Brera, crosses the streets and the skies, slips into basements with pulsing beats, slides among poems and songs from Alda Merini to Lucio Dalla by way of Maria Monti and Patrizia Valduga, flutters and vibrates, records moments, sketches musical notes and drawings, and does it all again. Six key words mark its rhythm — Brera, Street, Word, Together, Moments, Again — while artists of different generations and disciplines cross art, cinema, theatre and fashion, and in a relay without pause mentors and students tell of a Milan as a place of beauty and flesh.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
