A long dialogue between Letizia Battaglia and Goffredo Fofi. It is not a simple interview between the writer and critic and the Sicilian author but a long, intense and provocative give and take, of confrontation and sometimes of collision, which starting from the medium touches the most varied subjects. The result is a volume that is surprising, current, direct and sharp, almost offensive — in Sicilian dialect, a vastasata. Like a stream of consciousness the talk swings between past and present, between recollection and reality. The thread running through it is picture-making: not the kind of the selfie but the kind with a civic, ethical and social value, able to document, to bear witness and to last. In the course of the conversation the two return to an age of civil disobedience, when culture was still an instrument of liberation and was believed capable of really changing society. And not only: they speak of art, literature, cinema and travel, of an archaic Sicily, native to her and adoptive to him; inevitably of the mafia, of which the Palermo author was a professional witness. They reason about politics, present and past, and reflect on harsh daily reality as well as on the spiritual kind, calling back pieces of their own lives and those of others.
