Text by Gigliola Foschi
Arranged in five short chapters

The first book by Tina Cosmai, artist and photographer, with a text by Gigliola Foschi. "An improbable seaside landscape crossed with industrial settlement, where the sea stands for the only way out. The emergency exit for people squeezed between the factories that have multiplied along the coast and the harbour works risen in front of the beaches. The act of faith of those who escape the claustrophobic grip of progress, looking for a direction that will take them beyond the last beach." So the author introduces an enquiry that concentrates on the human condition; her metaphysical pictures, marked by a refined chromatic minimalism, invite reflection on that condition in a time ruled by technology. As Foschi writes, the title is emblematic of the series, divided into five short chapters, but it is also the wording on a sign eaten by salt and human neglect, looking out over a sea in the distance, almost invisible. And so, in a blue that loses itself towards the infinite, we see merry-go-rounds and skittles leap up and enormous geometric figures form in the air that people must live alongside — projections of our mental games. It is a world at once light and grave, where the marvels of the mind and everyday reality live together and intertwine.

ABOUT

The project

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.

Images and rights
