In 1970s London Harry Gruyaert made a series of photographs of his television screen, capturing the world as it was broadcast into living rooms: from banal but hugely popular programmes — British soaps, the Olympic Games — he drew abstract, experimental pieces with the look of pop art. The volume bears witness to the way millions of people were being shown the world at that moment, and to what happens to a picture once it passes through a tube.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
