Between 2008 and 2016 Bieke Depoorter travelled across Russia, the United States and Egypt, asking strangers whether she could spend the night at their home. Day after day different people made up a bed for her — on air mattresses, sofas, carpets, straight on the floor, in living rooms or kitchens. A decade later she came across the hundreds of pictures she had made of those beds, and the volume gathers them as the record of a long chain of hospitality.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
