Made with pictures brought out of Syria by exiles

Through meetings and accounts with Syrian exiles, gathering the rare pictures they carried with them as they fled their country, Alexis Cordesse built Talashi, a long-term work that bears precise witness to the memory of those uprooted lives. Scenes of daily life, of celebrations, of love and of family, the project unfolds a reading of the conflict from off-frame, through the keepsakes of those who lived through it.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
