With poetic texts by the author

This artist's book questions the place of materiality in belief. By photographing architectural elements, objects of worship and ritual gestures, Laëtitia Striffling-Marcu evokes the two ways of looking that can fall on one and the same object — that of the believer and that of the non-believer. For this signed and numbered edition she works around one support for prayer: the small piece of paper folded and slipped into the crack of a wall. The volume brings together those pictures and poetic accounts drawn from her own observation.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
