This first book by Emin Özmen, a Turkish photojournalist with Magnum, draws the reader into the tormented last decade in Turkey. Olay, which can be translated as event or incident, is an agitated volume: the tumult of the monochrome pictures documents the daily life of Turkish people while the dramatic events that marked the period unfold — an attempted coup, popular uprisings, natural disasters, political purges and military operations.
