Text by Camille Vivier

In this volume the photographer Camille Vivier presents her recent work around the figure of the Swiss artist HR Giger, author of the legendary creature in the film Alien. Through more than two hundred pictures of Giger's private house and garden, of sculptures, paintings and objects, the book is an homage to the universe of one of the most celebrated representatives of fantastic realism. Given exclusive access to the artist's house and studio in Zurich, Vivier worked there alone with a few models for a series of sittings; besides the pictures of the studio and of the life-size sculptures, she documented a hundred or so objects and works of art. In a short text the photographer also evokes her lasting fascination with Giger's art.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
