En vif recounts the daily life of some fifteen teenagers placed by the child welfare service in a Maison d'Enfants à Caractère Social in the Île-de-France region. Mixing texts and photographs, the volume is the product of collective work begun in 2019 and carried on until 2023. The pictures, taken by the residents together with the photographer Rebekka Deubner, are its intimate voices; the texts, written by the author Valentine Gauthier Fell, provide the narrative thread — a single day that lets the reader sink into the life and the workings of the institution.
