In 1958 the Zurich photographer first caught the image of the Halbstarke — the rebel — Jimmy Oechslin, and that meeting set off the fascination with outsiders and non-conformists in his own surroundings that produced this body of work on Swiss teenagers: belt buckles with Elvis, denim cut and pinned, horseshoe chains, poses held for a camera they trusted.
