We have lived through a series of deep geopolitical changes in the last few years. Migratory movements have been intensely transforming life in Europe, in the Middle East and, thanks to president Trump, in the United States as well; it has been one of the great subjects of journalistic discussion since the rise of ISIS, and there is an immense quantity of stories, discourses and pictures presenting these journeys and their political consequences. With all that in mind, the author looked for a way to discuss the photojournalistic coverage of this human movement, its tensions, its violence and its probable solutions. What best fitted the aim was to analyse, edit and resignify a selection of images found under the search "migrant crisis" on Google. The title refers to the number of results returned by that first search. The book sets out to give a new meaning to that collection of pictures and to build a visual narrative about this immense and important movement. The images in the series look for the primordial gesture in each moment shown, with a constant wish to protect the identity of those who face this complex journey and to bring forward instead the faces of those who could change the situation — politicians, mass media, police. Following a post-photographic logic, the work abandons the click of the author-photographer and concentrates on the making of new meanings, visual and narrative alike.
