Unable to cherish the gifts of Mother Earth, humanity began its descent—first from scarcity to abundance, then from abundance to excess. Like a wolf without pity for its prey, man devours the planet, convinced he will perish before witnessing its ultimate collapse. With the same arrogance that devalues a fly’s life beneath a human’s, we live under the illusion of freedom while remaining enslaved by society and consumerism. We will stop at red lights even when no one crosses, clinging to the false belief that pleasure is bound to excess. The blind obedience of the masses to the individual will be our downfall. Deprived of independent thought, hypnotized by our own reflections, we seek guidance—a father figure—losing the very essence of free worship. Led toward modernity, we will be ruled while believing ourselves free. The overwhelming red filter in his images serves as a stark reminder of a planet drained of vitality, where many believe life cannot continue like this much longer.

ABOUT

The project

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.

Images and rights

Covers, interior pages and descriptions are shown to introduce and identify the books, always crediting publisher, author and photographer and linking back to the publisher. We ask publishers for their permission, and we remove anything on request within 7 days. If you are a publisher, an author or a photographer and you want something changed or removed, write to info@spineindex.it.
