Clifford Prince King moved to Orange Grove in 2016 with his friend and collaborator Malcolm Marquez. They shared a warm two-bedroom flat in the Burbank hills, tucked into a leafy courtyard within walking distance of the shop where King worked the early shift. The pictures made in that time detail the exploration, bliss and transformation that come with a burgeoning queerness in a new creative, social and physical landscape, and they run like tapestry through warm and intricate portraits of the people around him.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
