"In 1997 I shot a large gathering of boy racers in a supermarket car park in Northampton. The Criminal Justice Bill of 1994 restricted numbers of people coming together in a public place, so there was a bit of trepidation on my part. I arrived to find a three-hundred-strong crowd and about a hundred souped-up cars, mostly hatchbacks pimped to the max — Fiestas, Golfs, Novas, Astras. These kids were there to admire or show off derestricted exhausts, honed-out manifolds, enlarged air filters, chipped fuel injection and expensive tyres, and custom spray jobs in all colours. It wasn't long before two police cars cruised into the throng, and when they started taking down number plates the crowd loomed in, chanting."
