These previously unpublished photographs capture the streets and waterways of London's East End in the warm hues of Kodachrome film: a journey back in time to a place now long vanished. The author (1912-1980) lived in the East End his whole life, and his colour slides lay untouched until 2017, when a local photographer examined them at the borough's local history library and archive.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
