“Blind Date, Blind Fate: Collage as an Event” is a dossier by Artphilein Library dedicated to photocollage as a contemporary artistic language. Tracing its evolution from a political and social critique to a tool for exploring the nature of photographic images, the project reflects on how today’s artists rework existing imagery within the broader ‘cut-and-paste’ culture. The publication brings together collage photobooks from the library’s collection and from artist Daniele Villa Zorn’s archive. Villa Zorn also contributes his own original works—minimal, haiku-like compositions created from mid-20th-century travel guides, forming poetic and disorienting landscapes. A conversation between Zorn and Yuval Etgar further enriches the project with layered reflections on collage, photography, and visual culture.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
