The work presents photographs of the forward operating bases built in the Kandahar province of Afghanistan. Between 2006 and 2011 Canada sent nearly three thousand military personnel there in support of the international security assistance force, and alongside infantry and artillery the military engineers designed a network of outposts throughout the province. Built on natural promontories with multiple lines of sight, they formed a protective visual chain.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
