Part homage to a slice of New York nightlife and part celebration of the city as a palimpsest, an evolving form onto which millions of people have projected and go on projecting their ideal selves and ideal lives. In the essay that accompanies the pictures the artist describes his experience as a young man in the late 1980s who had recently embraced his gay identity, and his finding a home in the mystery and abandon of the club, in the nightscape and finally in daybreak.
