A facsimile of June Leaf's sketchbook from the winter of 1974 and 1975, spent at Mabou Coal Mines in Nova Scotia, where she has lived since 1969 with her husband, the photographer and film-maker Robert Frank. The volume is above all a working document of her thoughts. Drawing is her primary medium, an approach explained in her first written entry of 26 November 1974: she does not usually like to write, because she is more satisfied by an action. Her sketches are exploratory, inquisitive and incomplete.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
