Published after Winant's 2022 show at The Print Center in Philadelphia, the book covers fifty years of how the oppression of women, and the fight to be heard about it, have been pictured in the media. It comes out of long research done with two American organisations working against domestic violence. Winant assembles newspaper reports of femicides and abuse, celebrity magazine covers, photographs of volunteers at work, T-shirts made by survivors in art workshops, slogan badges from demonstrations. What she deliberately keeps out of the book are pictures of the violence itself.
