The volume presents the work of one of the most important reporters of the last century. Born in Zurich in 1916, he devoted himself to press work from the end of the Second World War, travelling the world for the Magnum agency, which he joined in 1949 when it had only just been founded, and working for magazines such as Life and Vogue.

He is remembered for the deep empathy with those he portrayed and for his repulsion at spectacle.
