Best known for impressive black-and-white images, most taken on expeditions as a reporter in postwar Europe and during a major Asian conflict, and on travels in the Far East and South America. Far too little known are early color pictures, comprising studio work in fashion and advertising as well as reportage from war-damaged cities. For these, a color-separation device exposed three monochrome plates in a single exposure, each equipped with a filter so that a true color print was subsequently made by combining the three negatives -- some 200 of which have now been restored and published for the first time.
