The film director Michelangelo Antonioni is among the authors who have most attracted the attention of European and American photographers since the early 1960s. With Il deserto rosso in 1964, his first film in colour, set in the industrial area of Ravenna, he created a new aesthetic of the industrial and urban landscape that became a benchmark for photography worldwide. The volume gathers a wide-ranging reflection on that legacy in contemporary Italian work, alongside the earlier dialogue between American photography of the first half of the 1970s and the cinema of Antonioni and Godard.
