The first book dedicated exclusively to the work of the photographer from Pará, edited by Eder Chiodetto, brings out one of his rare qualities: from a very early age he was able to define his great theme and he has pursued it avidly ever since. Over the last thirty years his methodical research into a subject as complex as Brazilian religious manifestations has transformed him and his work; what began as classic documentary has moved towards the unnameable and the divine.

The collection was created in 2013 to honour the recognised quality of national work: curated by Eder Chiodetto, it presents, in different approaches, the production of reference figures who research Brazilianness deeply in its various manifestations, offering a reflection on the historical consequences of the country's formation.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
